Dato’ Mukhriz bin Tun Dr. Mahathir is the third son and fifth child of former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Hj Mohd Ali. He was born on 25 November 1964 in Alor Setar, Kedah.

He studied at MRSM Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan in 1977 until 1981. He continued his studies in Business Administration at Sophia University, Tokyo from 1985 until 1987 and graduated from Boston University, Massachusetts, U.S.A with degree in Marketing in 1989.

During his school days, he showed keen interest in music and the natural environment. His great interest in music led him to join a music band and play several musical intruments. Other than that, diving had gotten him involved in several tourism businesses.Dato’ Mukhriz is currently the Malaysian Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry. Prior to that he had held posts in several business entities, which include Opcom Holdings Bhd and Reliance Pacific Bhd.

Dato Mukhriz Mahathir also is deeply committed to various voluntary organizations and remains a leading force behind several international and local non-governmental organizations and associations. His involvement in civil society include as President of ANSARA, President of Malaysian Franchise Association, Coordinator of Peace Malaysia, Patron of Malaysia Down Syndrome Association, and Executive Director of Perdana Global Peace Foundation, where he is now Advisor.

His political career began when he won a seat as Exco Member of UMNO Kubang Pasu division in 2004, and later garnered the highest vote as Exco of UMNO Youth at national level. He was elected a Member of Parliament for Jerlun, Kedah in 2008 and was appointed to the Government in July 2009.
